Date Night Style: Doing the Oversized Trend.

We decided to do an impromptu photo-shoot when we went out for dinner last weekend at the Taj Bengal Kolkata. So,I apologize if some of the pictures are not as clear as they should be.This outfit I wore was actually for dinner with family but would be great for date night too!
Pair your favorite skinny pants with an oversized embellished top and some statement accessories for a look that is both fashionable and comfortable.

I love the oversized trend. If done the right way,it hides all the parts of your body that you want hidden. It is also extremely comfortable to wear.It is wearing-pyajamas-to-bed comfortable. It feels all roomy and cozy and makes you totally at ease. And when you're comfortable,it reflects in your attitude. And that, your guy will love.

The key to doing the oversized trend for petite people like us is to make sure that the outfit does not swallow your frame. So,Make sure that a part of your outfit is form fitted while the other loose.Like,How I paired this top with fitted leggings. If you're wearing an oversized dress, cinch it at your natural waistline with a belt.It is the most slimming and flattering part of your body!
Also,At the risk of looking too comfortable glam up your look with some statement accessories like this oversized Neon Clutch and Gold cuff.

Let me know how you would do the oversized trend or if you have done it recently ?

An Indian Independence Day!

Every Independence Day,I try to take in the opportunity and incorporate the tricolour somewhere in my outfit. This year too I had my orange and green maxi all planned in my head but when I actually took it out to wear,I realised at I had forgotten the slip that went with it in the store!
I had to meet my friends for lunch and I still really wanted to showcase my Indianness somehow in my outfit so I decided to switch to this fabulous cotton anarkali!

The whole outfit co-incidentally is all handloom and handicraft curated from different parts of India.Whenever I visit a new place,I make sure to visit the local shops there,Malls are the same in every city but it is in these small shops that you find the real gems. They are things that are unique to that region and as soon as you see it,it takes you back to the fond memories of the trip.

Flowy cotton Anarkalis are perfect for the humid monsoon season. They don't stick to your skin and are super comfortable and easy to wear. You can easily dress them uo with makeup and accessories to go from a casual to a dressy look.I've seen most people wearing pallazos with straight long kurtas but I love pairing them with Anarkalis. It changes the look of the whole outfit to instant chique and it looks like you've spent some time in styling your outfit even though it's so easy to wear.

I hope you had a great time this Independence Day! What did you do that day?

Nautical Style with a Twist

Every once in a while,I yearn for the sun, sand and the sea. But,since I cannot really go to work in my Boardwalk Shorts,I resort to the next best thing.Nautical Stripes.

The key to wearing nautical stripes is to pair it with a nice solid colour.I chose a white and played it up with colorful accessories but it looks amazing with a pop of classic red or yellow too! Then add some chunky goodness somewhere and you are good to go sail the seas.Of people. In my case.

But if you are heading for the real sea.I just want you to know that I'm very jealous. You stole my daydreams.

The Bridal Files : Sangeet/Engagement

Hello Lovelies!

Hope you've been enjoying reading The Bridal Files. The outfit I am posting this day is my Sangeet and Engagement (Mudda-tikka) one.Since,I was wearing a typical traditional red wedding lehenga,I wanted to go for an offbeat colour for my Sangeet. Also, since my in-laws were gifting it to me and they were staying in Canada during my engagement period,I had little less than one month to purchase and do the fittings for my Sangeet Lehenga. So,it was a bit of a hunt to find a lehenga in a short period of time which was different and readymade with minor alterations!
My friend referred me to this manufacturer who she was highly impressed with and I decided to check it out after the first few days of browsing were uneventful. The best part was that she said that he only takes an appointment through reference as he usually catered to other boutiques and did not do much of individual orders.I tried a few of the typical pinks and yellows before trying this one on and it was LOVE since I put it on.The colour was perfect and it seemed like I could actually DANCE in it.Also,it was inspired by a Sabyasachi design,And not just one of the cheap imitations which are a dime a dozen but real, quality workmanship.I did not even look at another Lehenga after trying this one on! :D

The Bridal Files: Youngsters

I would like to excuse myself by saying that my recent nuptials were the reason that I have been AWOL...But really I was mostly being lazy and procrastinating. But I'm back now! And better late than never right?

I now have a truckload of pictures to share thanks to my wedding.Nothing like a wedding to make you a complete narcissist.I do not however have too many pictures of my outfit for the youngsters party.Mostly because we spent half the time getting couple shots clicked and the other half well,I can't really publish. It was a cocktail party after all.

I bought my dress from my trip to Europe last summer.I had figured I could easily find a romantic, long dress in Paris,Right? Wrong! Everything I found in Paris was either too expensive and if it fit my budget then too simple.I wanted a dress that would be comfortable enough to dance in but still look dressy and classy.I finally found this dress at a store in Zurich called Modissa. If you are ever in this town, you MUST visit this shop.It is four floors of design goodness! The top floor was dedicated to cocktail dresses and that was where I found this beauty.Infact,I liked so many of their clothes that I felt like I was in Candyland. The rest of the floors had their inhouse label and some well-known international designers as well. They even had a bridal section which was by appointment. They also did my alteration in 2 days which more than what I could have asked for!

I had a Hawaiian Luau themed cocktail party for all of my friends and cousins. It was a pleasantly chilly Kolkata winter evening at the rooftop of a city bar.We handed out these floral leis and Hawaiian slippers (For tired high heeled feet:Thank you Pinterest!) as favours and had tons of fun posing at the photo booth.Fruity cocktails and finger food set the perfect mood for an amazing evening!

A Spring Fling

When I think of spring,I think of florals (Sorry,Miranda Priestly). And this outfit is what my typical weekend Spring outfit would be like.Casual,Comfy and Colourful. Since Spring days are limited in Kolkata before the much dreaded summers begin,we try to make most of whatever little bit of decent weather is left.Soon,it will be too hot and humid to even want to go outdoors!
I wore this outfit for a relaxing afternoon out last Sunday  The floral pants cheer up the most boring days and about my obsession for pink you will soon find out with the upcoming posts. Everytime,I see something in the most in-your-face bright pink...I just have to pick it up.If you give me an option between any color and pink.It will always be pink!I had planned to put on pink nail paint also but didn't get the time and I really wanted to do another outfit post soon. The makeup is minimal with just a hint of Kohl and Lipbalm as I don't like too much of a fuss on weekends unless I'm going somewhere dressy.Do let me know what you think?

Bag-A-Bond

For the longest time,I was notr a branded bag and shoes kind of girl.My costliest bag was a  Rs.3500($70) worth Gayatri Chopra clutch I had purchased during an exhibition 2 years back which I still use and love.During college expensive bags seemed like a frivolous expense and anyway no one I knew cared much about them even though it was a design school. We barely managed to get up and reach on time after the long nights and busy days. However, over the years,I have developed an appreciation and love for certain brands of bags.Even though the miser in me still reels at some of the prices,There are a few I've been coveting for a few years now that are well worth the price. Here are 5 bags I hope to buy within the next couple of years!

The Louis Vuitton Speedy Monogram 30
This LV Bag is easily the most recognizable bag of all time. And there is a good reason for it.It's a classic design which is perfect for day or work and even an occasional date night!Priced at $895,It is a luzury bag without breaking the bank. It's available in 4 sizes though I like the 30 best as it is neither too big nor too small.Just the perfect size for a dump-all like me!I have a fascination for top handles and absolutely LOVE the shape of it.This one is on my first on my list of things to buy!Let's hope you guys will see me using it soon!

The Coach Legacy Colorblock Leather Molly Satchel
This bag has everything that I love in bags. The moment I saw it,I knew that it was so ME!
Stunning Colors.Top handle and sling.Metal Zip.Boho Tassels.Fabulously Roomy.
What more could a girl want!Unfortunately,Currently it's sold out online.I hope there's one available in stores somewhere.
Price:$498

Malaga 'El Dorado' Clutch
I've seen clutches from all brands all over the world and somehow none are as pretty as the ones we do in India. This clutch is one I would love to have for my trousseau. It goes perfectly with Indian and Western clothes. It is bling enough without being blinding. The stones are so mesmerizing I could admire them all day!
I'm not sure about the price but this collection retails for around Rs.15000($278) approx as far as I know.

A Jump From Paper 2D Bag
The first time I saw this bag,I thought that it was an illustration! And I'm sure that I am not the first one to think that.Although, this is not really a High-End Designer Bag or even overpriced,This is definitely a Major Statement Bag!My obsession with quirk is fulfilled with this one.:)
Available at Jumpfrompaper.com for $99

The first bag I ever truly lusted after and can you really blame me?
Cambridge Satchel Company makes handcrafted leather satchels in the most gorgeous colours. And their Neon Range is definitely on the top of my lust list for bags.Methinks Pink for me...Which one would you choose?
Price: $180 approx for a 13"

I hope you enjoyed reading about my Bag-a-Bonds!Do you have any bags that you've been coveting?
What's your dream bag?
